Good News
Primary Passage
Matthew 16:24–26 (NIV). Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?”
The Call of Discipleship
This Easter, Jesus is asking one simple but life-changing question:
Will you follow Him? Will you be His disciple?
Not just affiliated. Not just praying in trouble.
But fully surrendered—living for Him.
What Is the Gospel?✦ The Gospel is Good News!
Romans 1:16 – "It is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes."
It is the message that saves us—but few truly respond.
Matthew 7:13–14 – The way is narrow and few find it.
Why Is It Good News?
✦ We were rescued from sin and eternal death.
Romans 6:23 – "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus."
Just like wages are earned, so is death the result of sin—but Jesus paid the price.
What Is Sin?
1 John 1:8 – "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves."
What Has God Done About It?
Jesus lived the sinless life we couldn’t live and took our place.
2 Corinthians 5:21 – "God made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us..."
Imagine breaking the law and someone pays your fine. Justice is satisfied. That’s what Jesus did.
God’s Mercy and Grace
We were dead in sin, but God gave us life in Christ.
Ephesians 2:1–10 – "By grace you have been saved... not by works... It is the gift of God."
A Call to Respond
Romans 5:1 – "Since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God..."
This is about eternity.
Revelation 21:1–8 – A new heaven, a new earth—Jesus reigning forever.
But for those who reject the truth:
Hebrews 9:27 – "Man is destined to die once, and after that face judgment."
2 Thessalonians 1:9 – "Shut out from the presence of the Lord..."
Only Jesus Can Save
1 Timothy 2:5–6 – "One mediator between God and mankind... Jesus."
John 3:18 – "Whoever believes is not condemned... but whoever does not believe is condemned already."
Why Easter Matters
The resurrection is our guarantee!
1 Peter 1:3 – "New birth into a living hope through the resurrection..."
1 Corinthians 15:17–20 – "If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile..."
Romans 6:4–5 – "Just as Christ was raised... we too may live a new life."
The Only Way
John 14:6 – "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
